Kidnap gang remnants vow revenge v. Restua
By Rhay G. Navales

REMNANTS of a suspected kidnap-for-ransom group, which was busted by police authorities Thursday in Dinalupihan, Bataan, on Friday threatened to kill Angeles City police director Sr. Supt Jimmy F. Restua and the rest of his family.

In an electronic mail sent to Sun•Star Pampanga at 4:09 p.m. on Thursday, the remaining members of the group vowed vengeance after their leader, Dr. Roberto Yap y Odeles, was killed in a brief encounter with law enforcers Thursday.

"Dahil sa ginawa ninyong pagpatay sa aming bosing na si Dr. Yap, hindi lahat ng oras ay hawak ninyo. Lintik lang ang walang ganti, uubusin namin ang mga lahi ninyo sa tamang oras," the letter to Restua stated.

The death threat was sent by one "Bert Yap Jr." with an e-mail address at 4:09 p.m. on Thursday.

"Col. Jimmy Fajardo Restua, tubong Nueva Ecija. Nakahanda na ang mga libingan ninyo at lahat ng mga kamag-anak at pamilya ninyo. Hindi namin kayo tatantanan," the e-mail also said.

Similar warnings were believed sent to relatives of the group's victims.

The Angeles City police, led by Restua, were about to serve a warrant of arrest for Yap and his companions at his apartment in Barangay Bangcal, Dinalupihan, Bataan Thursday dawn when the suspects fired upon them with an M-203 grenade launcher.

PO1 Joselito Esguerra, an Angeles City Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) member, was instantly killed while Restua and four of his men were seriously wounded by the grenade blast.

Restua, who sustained at least 79 shrapnel wounds, and the four other wounded police officers were brought to the Olongapo City Hospital where they are presently recovering.

Restua's men who were wounded include Chief Insp. Florentino Dela Cruz, Angeles City intelligence officer and PO2 Emerito Ramos, PO2 Emmet Nunag, and PO1 Juan Carlos Bustos.

Restua received commendations from several business and political leaders for busting the suspected kidnap-for-ransom group.

Asked about his reaction to the death threat, Restua replied, "Sila ang dapat mag-ingat dahil kilala na namin sila at nalalapit na rin ang wakas ng kanilang masasamang gawain."

Three of Yap's henchmen were also killed during the clash, while two suspects, identified only as Vilma and Aling Abad of Osamis Oriental, were arrested by police.
