Despite Lakas' endorsement, Guiao still open to congressional fight By Minerva Zamora-Arceo
PAMPANGA Provincial Board (PB) Member Joseller "Yeng" Guiao is still keeping his options open as far as his political plans are concerned.
This, as Guiao was endorsed as Lakas-CMD's candidate for vice governor.
Guiao, a first term board member and son of former governor Bren Guiao, said should the re-districting of Angeles City, Mabalacat, and
Magalang push through, he would possibly pull out from the Lakas slate.
A standing Liberal party member, Guiao said his top priority is to run for congressman in the 1st district. However, should the lone district bill of Angeles be deferred by the Senate, his second choice is to run for vice governor under Lakas.
Guiao said he has yet to inform the Liberal Party about his recent negotiation with Lakas. "I don't think that there would be any problem with the Liberal Party because we don't have a provincial line-up here," Guiao added.
Describing Lakas-CMD as the strongest party not only in Pampanga, Guiao said he feels privileged and honored to be an official candidate of
Lakas.
"It is an honor to be with President Arroyo and the Lakas party. But I need additional consultations regarding my final option. The ossibility of re-districting Angeles, Magalang, and Mabalacat has a 50-50 chance,"
Guiao said.
Should Guiao opt to run for congressman in the 1st district, he might face Mabalacat Mayor Marino Morales, who is now on his third and last term in office.
But if Guiao stays with Lakas, his official running mate is Board Member Mark Lapid, the president of the Pampanga Association of Barangay Captains (ABC).
Lapid, eldest son of Gov. Lito Lapid and a three-term ex-officio board member, is the Lakas-CMD's official candidate for governor.
