Lakas to declare provincial slate Dec. 8 By Minerva Zamora-Arceo
THE Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats party is set to announce its provincial line-up on Dec. 8 with Pampanga Provincial Board (PB) Member Mark T. Lapid as the possible official standard-bearer, Sun•Star Pampanga learned Friday.
A Lakas provincial stalwart said Lapid would possibly be declared as the administration party's official candidate for governor while the vice gubernatorial slot is still open and subject to arbitration.
The Lakas official said Vice Gov. Juan Miguel "Mikey" Arroyo will be the party's official candidate for congressman in the second district and Dr. Eric Domingo, son of Immigration Commissioner Andrea "Didi" Domingo, in the third district.
Transportation Assistant Sec. Rene Maglanque is the party's congressional bet in the fourth district while Rep. Oscar "Oca" Rodriguez, who earlier announced interest in the gubernatorial race, would possibly be fielded as an official candidate for mayor in the City of San Fernando.
The same source revealed Commissioner Andrea "Didi" Domingo, who is also vying for the City of San Fernando mayorship, might agree to become an independent Lakas candidate to give way to Rodriguez.
In Angeles City, Mayor Carmelo Lazatin might vie for a comeback under Lakas while Gov. Lito Lapid, who earlier announced to run as mayor of Angeles, might possibly run for senator instead, the source said.
The governor, now on his third term, earlier said the Angeles City mayorship is his first option but in anticipation of the national party decision, he is keeping his options open.
Meanwhile, the source said the Lakas party is still negotiating with Rep. Zeny Ducut, an NPC member and a known gubernatorial candidate, to become Board Member Mark Lapid's running mate.
The source said the same slot was offered to Mayor Rey Aquino earlier but the latter refused. Aquino, though a Lakas member, might run as an independent candidate for congressman in the third district. He would face Dr. Eric Domingo and Board Member Ferdinand "Dinan" Labung in the third district's congressional race.
