Lakas works out 'win-win' stance for Lazatin, Nepos By Minerva Zamora-Arceo
ANGELES -- The Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) party is trying to work out a possible "win-win" situation for Mayor Carmelo Lazatin and the Nepomuceno brothers.
A high-ranking Lakas officer said party officials offered a deal to the Nepomucenos that would, more or less, ensure Rep. Francis "Blueboy" Nepomuceno's victory in the 1st district congressional race.
The source said Lakas will not field any candidate in the first district congressional race to fight Blueboy, if his brother, Cut-cut Barangay Chairman Robin Nepomuceno, would agree to withdraw from the Angeles City mayoral race.
Lazatin will seek re-election if Lakas national directorate drafts Pampanga
Gov. Lito Lapid as one of its 12 senatorial bets.
However, the source said should Lapid fails to get enlisted for the senatorial slate, he might run either as mayor or congressman of the 1st district.
The source said Lapid and Lazatin could either run as mayor and congressman or vice versa and still have a bigger chance to outvote the Nepomuceno brothers.
Last Monday, the Lakas-CMD announced its official candidates in the province.
Provincial Board (PB) Members Mark Lapid and Joseller Guiao lead the Lakas-CMD line-up in the province as they were named official bets for governor and vice governor, respectively.
Lakas-CMD's official candidates for congressman are Vice Gov. Mikey Arroyo for the 2nd district, Dr. Eric Domingo for 3rd district and Transportation Assistant Sec. Rene Maglanque for the 4th district.
Mayor Lazatin was, however, named official candidate either for mayor of Angeles City or 1st district congressman. His position stands to change depending on Gov. Lito Lapid's political plan. The governor said they could either change positions as mayor of Angeles or congressman for the 1st district.
Meanwhile, the official candidates of Lakas for mayor are Mayor Marino Morales, Mabalacat; Mayor Pastor Guiao, Magalang; Mayor Exequiel Gamboa, Porac; Mayor Joeray Montemayor, Floridablanca; Vice Mayor Emil Capati, Guagua; Mayor Catalina Bagasina, Sasmuan; Mayor Art Salalila, Sta. Rita; Mayor Ernesto Punzalan, Mexico; Mayor Francisco Gaddi, Sta. Ana; Gloria Ronquillo, Sto. Tomas; Mayor Rodrigo Canlas, San Simon; Pablo Viray Jr., San Luis; Mayor Tirso Lacanilao, Apalit; Vice Mayor Pete Yabut, Macabebe; Mayor Corazon Lacap, Masantol; Vice Mayor Arturo Naguit, Minalin; and Mayor Normita "Babes" Evangelista, Candaba.
Rep. Oscar Rodriguez was declared as Lakas official candidate for mayor in the City of San Fernando.
No official candidates were declared for the towns of Lubao, Arayat, and Bacolor.
