Political groups still completing line-ups as last day of filing of COCs nears By Minerva Zamora-Arceo
POLITICAL parties in the province are still finalizing their line-ups for the 2004 elections as the last day of filing of certificate of candidacy (COCs) is on Jan. 5.
Pampanga Gov. Lito Lapid said he has yet to sign the certificate of nominations of the Lakas-CMD official candidates in the province as some political issues have yet to be resolved in some municipalities.
He said the Lakas-CMD party might declare Arayat town a freezone considering that the mayoral candidates, ABC president Chito Espino and former mayor Nelson Reyes, are both non-Lakas members but are supportive to the administration.
Aside from Arayat, Lakas-CMD might not field an official candidate in the towns of Bacolor, Guagua, and Lubao. Meanwhile, the rest of the slots were already filled up, the governor said.
Earlier, Board Member Mark Lapid and Board Member Joseller “Yeng” Guiao were declared as Lakas’ official candidates for governor and vice
governor, respectively.
On the other hand, Rep. Juan Pablo “Rimpy” Bondoc, NPC’s official candidate for governor, has yet to announce his running mate. Bondoc, who has been silent in the past months, has few mayors under his wing.
Bondoc is apparently “sharing” leaders and mayoral bets with Rep. Zeny Ducut, who is also an NPC stalwart and a gubernatorial candidate.
Ducut is running along with former Vice Gov. Clayton Olalia but the two have yet to announce their provincial slate, including mayoral bets down to candidates for councilor.
