San Fernando execs brace for traffic with cityhood anniv rites
By Albert B. Lacanlale

LOCAL government and police officials here are bracing for heavy traffic expected to be induced by line activities for the 250th founding anniversary of San Fernando.

On Thursday, the city information division issued a traffic advisory to guide motorists and commuters to search for alternate routes as several streets in the city will be closed to traffic to give way to five activities to commemorate the 3rd cityhood anniversary of this locality.

“Several meaningful activities have been prepared to commemorate this very rare event. A number of them will require closure of specific roads for the duration of the activities,” city officials said.

On January 31, MacArthur Highway at the Monumento Fernandino will be closed from 1 p.m. onwards for the Terakan Siyudad — a street dance affair.

With the event taking place, vehicles going to the Poblacion from Dolores will be rerouted through the Greenville Subdivision in San Jose and through Barangay Magliman.

On February 1, a Tilbury Race will keep the Lazatin Boulevard from St. Jude Subdivision up to the Gapan-San Fernando-Olongapo (GSO) Road closed to traffic from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

On February 3, a Tuesday, A. Consunji St., from Essel Supermarket in Barangay Sto. Niño to G&A, will be closed from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. as the City Government tries its bid for a one kilometer-long longganiza sponsored by Pampanga’s Best, one the province’s premiere meat processing firms.

Meanwhile, a slight congestion is anticipated with the kick-off activities like the motorcade on January 29 and the “3rd Karera king Tercera” to be held also on February 1.

Aside from the above mentioned roads, the Lazatin Boulevard along Magdalena Subdivision and General Hizon Avenue plaza will not be passable due to rehabilitation works being implemented by the City Government.
