By Rhay G. Navales

PNP Chief Hermogenes E. Ebdane Tuesday lauded the Central Luzon police for combating the proliferation of illegal drugs in the region while netting some P13 million worth of shabu in various operations.

Ebdane said the region police’s efforts to eradicate prohibited drugs show they are bent on battling criminality in Central Luzon.

During the 13th PNP anniversary celebration here Tuesday, Ebdane disclosed that the Police Regional Office Region III (PRO-III) busted several organized crime groups and drug syndicates operating in the region.

According to Ebdane, the regional police raided at least 16 shabu factories and confiscated prohibited drugs having a street value of P13 billion.

Ebdane also cited the neutralization of the Obeles-Yap Group, a kidnap-for-ransom syndicate which operated here and in Metro Manila.

Ebdane told policemen to renew their commitment to serving the people and fulfill the PNP’s pledge of service.

During the rites, Ebdane handed out awards to Central Luzon’s outstanding police officers and personnel who displayed excellent performance in eradicating illegal drugs and other forms of criminalities.

Among the awardees was Senior Supt. Jimmy F. Restua, Angeles City police director, who was wounded during a raid at the hideout of the Obeles-Yap Group.

The posthumous awardees who died in an encounter with dissident terrorists in Pandi, Bulacan were Insp. Expedito C. Delgado and PO3 Elpidio R. Reyes Jr., among others.

Meanwhile, those who received the Medalya ng Kadakilaan include: SPO4 Jaime C. Garay, PO1 Eric Von F. Kleitz, SPO1 Rodrigo N. Castañeda and PO3 Romeo D. Calimbas of the Dinalupihan, Bataan police; SPO1 Daniel P. Donato of the Aliaga, Nueva Ecija police; Senior Insp. Anthony V. Placido and PO1 Pancho D. Doble of Botolan Zambales police; and Chief Insp. Eliseo R. Capili Jr. and Senior Insp. Alfredo M. Latosquin of the Magalang, Pampanga police.

There were six unit awardees, five Individual awardees, nine Special Awardees, Three Outstanding Bpats (Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams), and Three Outstanding Non-Governmental Organizations.

Scores of public officials and other guests witnessed the celebration of PNP Day, with the theme “Pulisya at Mamamayan Kapit Bisig Tungo sa Matatag na Republika.” (With reports from Marie Cris C. Segismundo and Ruby Mascuñana)
