Briton: No ‘relief order’
By Ria Isidro-de Fiesta

SENIOR Supt. Conrado Briton, executive director of the Central Luzon Drug Rehabilitation Center (CLDRC), Friday denied he was relieved from his post by PNP Chief Hermogenes Ebdane.

“I was not sacked. There was no such order from the PNP,” Briton said Friday.

Briton said earlier reports of his so-called relief were based on a letter addressed to a “non-existent” position in the CLDRC, which merely “advises” the supposed addressee of the PNP’s plans for Briton.

The letter was addressed to “The Chairman, Board of Trustees” of the CLDRC, when in effect, there is no such position in the rehab center, Briton said.

Moreover, Briton said he was not appointed by the PNP as executive director of the CLDRC in the first place.

In fact, Briton said he has been on a “floating status” since he was relieved as deputy regional director for administration at the regional headquarters here in June 2003.

Briton added that in spite of the fact that he is not, in capacity, actively working for the PNP, he is still performing his duties at the center.

“I see to it that there are smooth and efficient operations in the rehab center for the general welfare of drug dependents who are seeking treatment at CLDRC,” Briton said.

Briton said he was relieved of his duties as DRDA at the regional headquarters because of an alleged “misunderstanding” with Chief Supt. Vidal Querol, regional police director.

“These events have hurt my career and destroyed everything. It has damaged me as a person and damaged my career as an officer,” Briton said.

“Aping-api ako (I have been maltreated),” he said, even as he added that he has done so much for the PNP and does not deserve the treatment he has been getting from the organization.

Earlier, it was reported that Ebdane has ordered the relief of Briton as executive director of the CLDRC in Magalang town.

Querol earlier said Ebdane issued the order “after initial investigations indicated the allegations of anomalies are true.”

“Right now, I am still waiting for that order to materialize and I hope they would do it,” Briton said.
