Fire guts house, Jenra warehouse By Dante M. Fabian
ANGELES CITY -- Fire of still unknown origin that gutted a warehouse of the Jenra Supermarket and a residential house here forced hundreds of shoppers in the flea markets near the Apu shrine to scamper for safety Friday noon.
The fire that broke out around 12 noon totally gutted a Jenra warehouse located in a lot at the corner of Burgos and Bugalon streets in Barangay Agapito Del Rosario here.
The warehouse and the house, which was razed along with it, were located at the back of the Jenra Supermarket along Jesus St. this city.
Senior Insp. Ma. Cristina Bernardez, Angeles City Police Office (Acpo) Station 2 chief, said that the fire was placed under control by firemen from the Angeles City Fire Department later.
Bernardez said no one was reported injured in the one-hour fire.
Bernardez also said the blaze was put out with the help of responding firetrucks from Angeles City, Balibago and Dee Hwa Liong Volunteer Fire Brigade.
Cornelio “Teng” Susan, Barangay Agapito Del Rosario chairman, said the warehouse is owned by the proprietors of the Jenra Supermarket.
Meanwhile, he said the house which was also razed by the fire is owned by one Anselmo Pangilinan and his brothers.
Pangilinan said they were not able to save any of their belongings because the flames spread very quickly from the warehouse to their house.
He added that they have nothing left of their belongings except for the clothes they were wearing at the time the fire broke out.
Anselmo said the fire spread quickly into their house because there was only a low concrete fence between their house and the warehouse.
People living in the neighborhood said that Pangilinan’s house, which was directly located at the rear of the Jenra Supermarket, was engulfed by the fire that originated from the warehouse beside it.
They said they saw the fire initially coming out of the adjoining warehouse, which is used by the Jenra Supermarket to store used carton boxes, old carts and other materials about to be discarded.
They said before the fire erupted, they saw Jenra employees arrive at the warehouse unloading some cargo.
Chief Insp. Nelson Feliciano, Angeles City fire marshal, said an investigation will immediately be conducted to determine whether there was foul play in the incident.
Feliciano said he has yet to receive an estimated amount of damage for the gutted properties.
