Ducut’s kin-leader in Macabebe shot By Minerva Zamora-Arceo
A DISTANT relative and political leader of gubernatorial candidate Rep. Zenaida Ducut was shot in Barangay Sto. Rosario, Macabebe dawn Saturday.
The victim, identified as Rosalina I. Mañalac, survived the shooting but was in critical condition as of 12 noon Saturday at the Jose B. Lingad Regional Memorial Hospital.
In an interview with Sun•Star Pampanga, Sr. Supt. Rodolfo “Boogie” Mendoza, Pampanga police chief, said the victim was shot at about 4 a.m. in their house’s open garage, which is only a few steps away from the barangay road. Only a three-foot-high grill gate separates the garage from the road, it was said.
Mendoza, however, said the police have yet to determine the weapon used and the motive in the shooting even as he revealed that the investigation is still ongoing.
Rosalina, Sun•Star Pampanga learned, is the wife of Eliong Mañalac, Ducut’s and former vice governor Clayton Olalia’s municipal coordinator in Macabebe.
In a separate interview with Ducut and Olalia, the two said Rosalina has been actively supporting their candidacy and that she plays a big role in organizing sorties and political rallies in Macabebe.
“Uling kamag-anak mila ala kung aliwang pagsantungan karin nung e ila. Maragul la saup kekami uling ila ing kayabe mi kareng lakad mi king Macabebe,” Ducut said who also revealed that they were scheduled to meet residents of Sta. Maria, Macabebe also yesterday.
“Kahit simpleng housewife siya (victim), may pakikisama kasi kaya madaling makapag-organisa ng tao. Duon kami kumakain at nagka-caucus sa kanila pag nasa Macabebe kami,” Olalia added.
The two, however, refused to speculate on the motive of the shooting saying the police are still conducting an investigation on the incident.
“We already requested Sr. Supt. Mendoza to conduct an investigation. We don’t want to conclude (yet). We don’t know the motive yet until the investigation is through. Mahirap magbintang. I know they (police) will do their job well,” said Ducut when asked if the incident is politically-motivated.
SSP learned that Rosalina was cleaning bottles of mineral water in their garage when the shooting happened. She sustained multiple wounds in her colon as effect of the bullet’s entry.
Her husband Eliong was allegedly mixing coffee inside their kitchen at the time of the shooting.
Rosalina was first brought to Ascom Hospital in Apalit and was later transferred to JBL for major operation. Dr. Jodel Coats conducted the operation while Ducut and Olalia brought Dr. Rudy Ong, a general surgeon, to monitor the treatment at the JBL.
