Cops shoot down murder suspect By Ria Isidro-de Fiesta
AN ESCAPEE from the National Penitentiary in Muntinlupa City who was previously arrested for a string of murder cases in Macabebe, Masantol and Apalit towns was gunned down by Masantol police after a brief shootout, reports said.
Police identified the fatality as one Nelson Santos, 26, of Barangay Batasan in Macabebe town.
The Masantol police was reportedly tipped off by an informant that Santos was seen in Barangay San Nicolas in Masantol.
Policemen immediately responded to the scene. However, they were seen by Santos, who fled. The police immediately went after him.
Santos was finally cornered at Sitio Suluc in Barangay San Nicolas, where he traded shots with the policemen. He was hit and died on the spot.
Recovered from Santos were a .45 caliber pistol and two fragmentation grenades.
Santos, sources said, was known to cause trouble in Macabebe town where he reportedly killed a sibling of a local police there.
