US-based IT firm eyes Pampanga for new unit
By Minerva Zamora-Arceo

AT LEAST 700 job seekers may be given a chance to be employed this year as another American IT firm plans to locate in Pampanga and establish a new call center.

Kaye Malig, DTI Region 3 senior trade and industry development specialist, said the US-based IT firm, Convergys, has an ongoing job fair at the Melvi Building's penthouse here, which started Monday and is expected to end June 3.

Malig said the company wants to determine the amount and quality of manpower Central Luzon could offer so it sought the help of DTI to organize a four-day job fair.

She said next to Metro Manila, Clark Special Economic Zone (CSEZ) and Central Luzon, particularly Pampanga, are being considered as strategic locations for IT projects.

The job fair is open ar 9 a.m. and closes at 7 p.m. Applicants are required to bring resume and two 2x2 photos, Malig said, adding that the company would also give initial interviews, computer exams, and final interviews.

Convergys, Malig said, has other call centers in Makati, Alabang, Ortigas and Cebu.

Malig added that it is known as the world's largest call center operator, even bigger than Cyber City and AOL.

The job fair is open to all interested applicants who are excellent in conversational English, willing to work on graveyard shifts, and at least college level.

Malig said they have already tapped local trade and industry offices and public employment services offices (PESOs) in the region for the ongoing job fair.

At present, at least 5,000 workers from Central Luzon work for AOL and Cyber City, both located inside CSEZ, and enjoy decent wages from the two large American companies. AOL and Cyber City are also the top IT locators in Clark.
