DPWH prepares plans for school opening By Minerva Zamora-Arceo
IN PREPARATION for the expected volume of students who would troop to various schools and colleges on June 7, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has started drawing traffic measures to help the PNP maintain orderliness during the opening of classes.
In a speech at the PNP's flag raising ceremony in Camp Olivas Monday, DPWH Region 3 director Ramon Aquino said the DPWH will make available all national roads and bridges for the convenience of the commuting public.
"We have also coordinated with our concerned project engineers on the monitoring of all alternate routes to the North Luzon Expressway to preempt the occurrence of heavy traffic and provide smooth flow of traffic in all areas," he added.
On top of this, Aquino said he also instructed the regional maintenance division to paint pedestrian lanes in school zones and install informative signs.
Aquino said the department's partnership with PNP is "vital because through proper and constant coordination and inter-action, we can work on the attainment of better road safety nets."
"Through the combination of our efforts, we can reduce the number of traffic accidents and improve the traffic accident prevention program for national highways in our region. While we are working on the quality of structures, PNP can work on their preservation," he explained.
Aquino said the DPWH is also pursuing a "zero pothole campaign" in anticipation of the rainy season.
He said they have activated the agency's Regional Disaster Coordinating Team (RDCT), including teams in the district level, to implement the disaster preparedness program.
Part of the program is the preparation of situational reports every six hours and forwarding this to the DPWH central office, the RDCC and the local media for appropriate disposition.
