Koreans bring ancient cure to Dau residents By Rhay G. Navales
MABALACAT -- Hundreds of residents in Barangay Dau here received ancient healing methods conducted by the Korean Medical Mission (KMM) on Wednesday.
The Korean missionaries, headed by Kim Maeng Ryul, administered "ventuza" and acupuncture, ancient Chinese medical practices, to several patients who are mostly old folk.
Ventuza is a method where blood is sucked from the back of a patient using a suction glass. It is a known cure of asthma and can regulate uric acid, cholesterol, and nicotine.
Acupuncture is a technique, as for relieving pain or inducing regional anesthesia, in which thin needles are inserted into the body at specific points. It helps heal hypertension and diabetes and relieves rheumatism and migraine.
Several residents also received free medicines and dental care from the Korean doctors.
Louie Cunanan, Dau punong barangay, said the Philippine Guardians Brotherhood Reformist Group (Guardians) invited the KMM in a bid to help indigent patients.
Cunanan, also a member of Guardians, said medical missions are being spearheaded by the group all over the country.
"This is part of our effort to renew the image of Guardians which was tainted with revolutions and other bad things," Cunanan said.
