By Marna H. Dagumboy and Rhay G. Navales

STA. ANA -- Suspected members of the New People's Army were arrested Saturday in a joint operation conducted by elements of the Philippine Army 69th Infantry Battalion and Philippine National Police Provincial Mobile Group (PMG) at Sitio Darabulbul, Barangay San Roque, this town.

Sr. Supt. Leonardo Espina, provincial police director, identified the suspects as Jose Roxas alias Dona, Donald Navarro and Nicolas Nicdao alias "Ka Nick."

Espina said elements of the PMG and 69th IB responded to the village after receiving reports that armed men were conducting a dialogue in the area.

As the government troopers approached the area, they were fired upon by the rebels prompting them to retaliate. No casualties and fatalities were reported during the brief gunfight.

Confiscated from the possession of the suspected rebels were M14 and M16 rifles, two hand grenades, and one .38 caliber revolver.

The raiding team was led by 69th IB battalion commander Lt. Col. Ricardo Visaya and PMG chief Supt. Keith Ernald Ll. Singian.

Sun.Star Pampanga learned from sources that the three suspected rebels were under Ka Roma, whose group operates in the southeastern part of the province.

On Thursday morning, a suspected rebel was killed during a brief encounter in Barangay Arenas, Arayat town.

The fatality was identified as Danilo Sanchez, believed to be a member of the Rebolusyonaryong Samahan ng mga Anak Pawis (RSAP).

He was also a former of the Hukbong Mapagpalaya ng Bayan (HMB).
Police recovered one M16 armalite rifle and .45 caliber pistol during the incident.
