Purefoods gives relief goods to Arayat settlers

ARAYAT -- Purefoods Hormel Corporation and the local government unit (LGU) of this municipality distributed Saturday a truckload of relief goods to at least a hundred settlers of Barangay Telapayong here.

Mayor Chito Espino, who personally distributed the relief goods with councilor Chona Oronce, chief of police Supt. Respicio Delfin and barangay chief Ludencio Galang, said that he is thankful for the support and concern of his friends in the private sector.

Espino said that most of the people staying in the evacuation center came from Caloocan, Navotas and Malabon.

Espino also appealed to President Arroyo to assist in providing permanent housing in the resettlement site and livelihood for the settlers.

Councilor Chona Oronce, SB chair committee on health and sanitation said that one of the concerns of settlers here is the unavailability of medicine.

Oronce said that she is requesting the provincial government to coordinate with the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) and the Department of Health (DOH) for the establishment of a "Botica sa Barangay" here.

She has also launched a series of medical missions in several barangays with the help of the Cabalen Jaycees and Mayor Espino.
Barangay chairman Galang said that one of the problems being faced by the settlers are housing and livelihood.

Galang, meanwhile, thanked Espino for the distribution of relief goods and also appealed to other provincial officials to provide a water pump to be used by the settlers since water is hard to come by here.
