Gueco: Healing By Malu T. Gueco
Sophiam is my best friend. Last week we had a coffee-cum-conversation. I learned she was sick for some time with pneumonia. I was curious and asked her insights about her illness. She said she gained these two lessons.
One
"You have to transform the pain," she averred. Sophiam said that in order to alleviate her mind from the sickness she turned to the world of creative work. She painted mountains and landscape scenes using watercolor pencils.
"Healing comes when after diagnosis, taking the prescribed medications, one uplifts her/his emotional health," she confirmed.
Thereto, she filled the hours of convalescence with painting. This helped her overcome the pressing distress, maintain a creative schedule and allowed colors to fill up her waking hours imagery. Consequently, healing became a speedier process.
Second
Sophiam affirmed she had to face this painful issue in her life. The issue of not having met their fathers is a hurtful matter for most Amerasians. It is a complete dilemma for them because they long to know the affection of a kind father figure.
Some do try to search for their male parent, however, the great oceans distancing Asia and America are formidable barriers. Of course the lack of complete information about their fathers (Military service records) is another deterring factor.
There are no easy solutions but it is a purposeful goal to try to search for them. In this light, Sophiam prayed for healing and forgiveness to attain a peace of mind. Happily, she came across this prayer whch helped her appease the pains of missing her pa.
Prayer
Father Robert DeGrandis, S.S.J. opened the healing path for the sick with these words: "Lord Jesus, we love and praise you. We know it is your will that we be perfectly at peace with our earthly father whether he is living or dead.
Therefore, we ask You to touch deeply with Your healing love those areas of our being which need Your love, to bring healing to any hurts or pains, negative attitudes we may have had toward our earthly father."
Conclusion
Sophiam is slowly walking the pathway of healing and is grateful to her family, friends and healers who helped her go through the tunnel of disease. Likewise, she believes transforming pain into gain and confronting a personal issue are keys to attaining nirvana (peace). Today let us thank our Goddess for the blessings of sickness, renewal and restored health.
