Asian Spirit, British firm in airport expansion program By Chris Navarro
CLARK ECOZONE -- Asian Spirit and British Aerospace (BAe) System recently signed an agreement acquiring a four 80-seater British Aerospace 146 (BAE 146) jet aircraft to be used in their expansion program at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA), increasing its domestic routes in the country.
Asian Spirit chair Noel Onate said the airlines infused about P35 million in the new investment in acquiring the new jet aircraft to be used in its domestic routes in the country.
Belen Guzman, Clark sales manager-Asian Spirit Clark Hub, said the addition of new jet aircraft in the youngest airlines is in support of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's trust in improving the economic situation of the country and by effectively and aggressively supporting the programs of the Department of Tourism.
The BAE 146 regional aircraft boasts of its four high-wing jet engine with wide passenger cabin, which is pressurized for cool and quiet flight. BAE System is the third largest aircraft manufacturer in the world.
Guzman said the acquisition of the UK's Jumbolino is consistent with the airline's continuous program of adding bigger and faster planes to their fleet and includes new technology aircrafts that feature modern equipment, more passenger and cargo space to better serve foreign and local tourists.
Onate said the Jumbolino is considered as one of the quietest and cleanest aircraft in its class. "This aircraft is so quiet that it is one of only a few aircraft which are allowed to land at the London City airport and the official jet aircraft of the Royal Family in UK."
Guzman, meanwhile, said "Asian Spirit is pleased to inform travelers that we have already registered the highest load factor among the major airlines in the country today."
The airline announced it has 20 tourist destinations, from its Manila and Cebu hubs that include Antique, Boracar, Batanes, Busuanga, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Calbayog, Catanduanes, Clark, Dipolog, Marinduque, Masbate, Catarman, San Jose Mindoro, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Taytay, Palawan, Tuguegarao and will be launching by February the Manila-Puerto Princesa, Palawan and Manila-Ormoc operations to further bring Filipinos closer.
Clark Development Corporation president Emmanuel Y. Angeles said the arrival of the new jet aircraft at the DMIA is a signal that Clark is becoming one of the premier airports in the country as he announced that four Asian airlines will be flying soon to Clark.
