Villa breaks ground for P32M infra project in N. Ecija By Marna H. Dagumboy
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - Land Reform Secretary Rene C. Villa recently attended the groundbreaking ceremony of some P32,190,959 worth of infrastructure projects to improve rural health and farm activities in the province of Nueva Ecija.
Villa, during the ceremony of the rural water system (RWS) at Barangay Imelda Valley II in Palayan City Agrarian Reform Community, said "water is basically a women's issue."
"Not much housekeeping, which is women's domain, can be done without water," he added.
Accordingly, barely 187 households were to benefit from the RWS with funding from the Agrarian Reform Infrastructure Support Project (Arisp II) of the government of Japan through the Department of Land Reform (DLR).
On the other hand, Nueva Ecija Governor Tomas Joson said at present the bulk of household water supply in the area was sourced from the nearby municipality of Laur.
However, Joson along with Mayor Romeo Capinpin promised to continue from where DLR took off to make safe water available in most of the households in the area.
Villa said the RWS is slated to be operational in May.
Meanwhile the Bukang Liwayway Irrigator's Association is elated over the Bongabon Communal Irrigation Project projected to irrigate 1,000 hectares in Bukang Liwayway ARC come September this year.
The project, accordingly, will be carried out with P11,425,452.73 loan proceeds from the Asian Development Bank - Agrarian Reform Communities Project.
Moreover, Villa commended the good roads in the far Municipality of Gabaldon. He also expressed confidence that improvements in the 2,380 meters Tagumpay-Bagong Sikat Road also under Arisp II will be taken care by the Gabaldon ARC beneficiaries.
A total of 186 certificates of land ownership awards (Cloas) were also distributed on the same day.
Villa also reminded the recipients to pay their monthly land amortization to the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP). The money, he said, were very much needed for acquisition and distribution of more lands under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (Carp).
