Gueco: Summer drive
By Malu T. Gueco

"SUMMERTIME and the living is easy... the fish are jumping..."

This is the opening lyric of a famous jazz song and it aptly describes the present heat bedazzling our country. Our home in this tropical paradise is visited by the searing heat of the sun's radiance and it follows our footsteps in whatever direction we take.

" Dwight O. Nacaytuna"< dwight_n44@yahoo.com> Heavenly Father, the Roman Catholics need a holy shepherd to guide them in their moral and spiritual journey back to your Kingdom. Bless the man who will sit on St. Peter's Basilica with the vision of the Great John Paul II .... Bless the Cardinal Arinze.

How do we face this summer frenzy?

Aha! Maybe the appropriate solution is summer driving. Yes, it is the key in getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city jungle. We are propelled to head for the beach, hie off to Tagaytay, Clark or Subic, and/or motor to the nearest resort. This is the cool solution to the mercury rising in our residences. Imagining our trip makes us feel the smooth, cascading and refreshing waters flowing through our parched selves.

Uncovering the sandy rocks amidst the rushing sea tides, we heal our minds, hearts and spirits in having respite, relaxation and recreation. Before jumping into our cars, let us remember that safe driving is the best way to reach our summer oasis.

Here are some friendly tips...

Health check-up

Ensure your car is in the pink of health.

In case you are uncertain about those coughs emanating from under the hood, better have your vehicle be serviced by accredited shops. Prevention is the better part of valor, especially, during long drives.

Mini-breaks

Fatigue factor can be the bane of distant traveling. Your reflexes must be in tiptop shape so you can concentrate on a defensive stance. Take frequent stops to take refreshments, stretch your driving legs and ease those back muscles.

Roadmap

If you are unfamiliar with your travel route, bring along a roadmap to help your navigation. Likewise, having a co-pilot by your side is a tremendous help in scanning the roadside.

No cellphone

How many times have we seen drivers chatting on their phones as if they had no other task to attend? Calling up friends while driving is not a comfortable mixture. Keep your eyes on the road and focus on a facile, relaxed and safe motoring profile.

Secure driving is the key to fully opening the summer's exciting travelogue.

Total

A company that puts a high premium on safety, quality products and environmental care is Total (Philippines) Corporation. They became a major oil player in the Philippines in 1997.

Concomitantly, their petroleum, lubricants and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) are now renowned products in the country. Total's Rubia lubricants are utilized by diesel engines, vice-versa, Total Quartz range series are geared for high oil performance gasoline engines. Their lubricants offer exemplary corrosion protection, reduced emissions and environmental safety.

"We are happy to serve our fellow Kapampangans, especially, during these summer driving days," is the heartwarming message of Manager Jimmy Alarcon. He spearheads Ocampo's Guagua, which is the hub of Total's lubricant distribution in Pampanga.

Happy driving message

Safe driving is the royal road to follow in reaching our summer ideal places. Friends, with the music of the summertime living serving as a background song in the comforts of your car, may you have a happy driving day with your loved ones!
