3 carnap-slay suspects busted
By Reynaldo G. Navales

MAGALANG -- The three suspects in a recent robbery-slay case in Barangay La Paz here were arrested by the police in two separate places in the town and in San Fernando City last Wednesday.

The suspects were Ever R. Cueva, 19, driver, of Bucanan, Magalang; Esperidron E. Tubiano, 32, a piggery farm worker also of Bucanan, Magalang; and Rene E. Lumantao, 20, also a piggery farm worker, of Negros Oriental.

The three have been accused of stabbing to death Avelino Guzman, a tricycle driver, and of robbing the victim's tricycle in Barangay La Paz in the town last Tuesday.

Superintendent Eliseo R. Capili Jr., chief of the Magalang police, said Cueva and Tubiano were apprehended at the residence of one of their relatives in Barangay San Agustin, City of San Fernando.

Lumantao, believed to have masterminded the crime, on the other hand, was collared near the Quitangil River Control in Barangay San Nicolas II here.

Capili said concerned citizens informed them of the suspects' whereabouts. He said joint elements of the Magalang and Angeles City police carried out the arrest.

He said recovered from Cueva was a fan knife, a motorized tricycle and clothing with bloodstains.

Capili said Tubiano turned to be a witness against his two cohorts.

A robbery with homicide case was filed against Cueva and Lumantao before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor with no bail recommended for their temporary release.

Mayor Pastor Guiao, meanwhile, lauded the Magalang police for the immediate arrest of the suspects.

Guiao also issued a stern warning to other lawless elements as he said there is no place for them in the town.
