Traders seek help for North expressway users
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Pampanga businessmen have asked the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to intervene on behalf of Central Luzon motorists using the new North Luzon Expressway (Nlex).
In a letter to LTO Chief Anne Lontoc, the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (PamCham) has sought a change in the current policy of requiring apprehended motorists at the Nlex to redeem their confiscated licenses from the LTO Central Office in Quezon City.
"We believe there is now a compelling need to amend this policy or practice as a matter of practical and convenient approach in the service of our concerned motorists from the region," said PamCham president Levy P. Laus in the letter.
Laus said in addition to inconvenience, apprehended Nlex motorists take much time and energy just to line up along with other motorists from Quezon City and other areas to get back their licenses from the LTO Head Office.
He said Central Luzon motorists constitute the bulk of Nlex users and that the new world-class super highway is mostly within the region.
Laus said the apprehended Nlex motorists, mostly for violating the speed limit, should be given an option to redeem their licenses other than from the LTO Head Office.
"We suggest that the LTO Regional Office in the City of San Fernando as an alternative," he said.
Laus said businessmen and other motorists from Central and North Luzon have been enjoying the safety and efficiency of the Nlex.
"They are also proud of its world-class quality," he said.
The businessman said helping the Nlex motorists will go a long way in boosting their effort to promote business and progress in the countryside. (ABL)
