Town fire truck not running since February: fire office By Marna H. Dagumboy
APALIT -- An official of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) bared Wednesday that the fire truck in the town has been "out of commission" since February--the reason why it was "missing" in the recent blaze that destroyed a commercial building and a supermarket in Barangay San Vicente here.
Senior Fire Officer 1 Victor Joaquin, officer-in-charge of the Apalit fire office, said since their fire truck was out of order, they sought the assistance of other municipal fire stations to contain the fire.
He said their request for the truck's repair and rehabilitation had already been forwarded to the Provincial Fire Office but they have yet to receive any response.
"Our fire truck has been damaged since the month of February; and we already requested for the repair of the vehicle," he said.
Fire records show that in the six fire cases happened in 2002 to 2003 here, the Apalit fire fighters either failed to respond or came late.
Meanwhile, Joaquin said they are conducting a follow-up investigation on Monday's fire incident that damaged some P20 million in properties and commercial goods.
He said they have yet to establish the real cause of the fire.
The four-hour blaze was reportedly originated from the second floor of the DD's Supermarket.
