Wage board issues rules on living allowance hike By Albert B. Lacanlale
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) of Central Luzon has released the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) for the hike in the cost-of-living-allowance (Cola) of minimum wage workers in the region.
The IRR reaffirms the intended P20 Cola increase, stipulated in Wage Order No. RBIII-11, which took effect June 16.
Lawyer Rod Ellaga, Attorney IV of the RTWPB-3, said the Cola hike had taken effect as scheduled even prior to the issuance of the IRR.
However, he said, there are companies who require the IRR before adopting the increase.
With the IRR, Ellaga said, companies who have not added the P20 to the Cola of their employees are mandated to pay the additional benefit retroactive from June 16.
The Cola adjustment applies to all covered workers and employees in the private sector in the region regardless of position, designation or status of employment and irrespective of the method by which their wages are paid.
Not covered in Wage Order No. RBIII-11 however are household or domestic helpers; persons employed in the personal service of another including family drivers; and workers of Barangay Micro Business Enterprises with Certificates of Authority, pursuant to Republic Act (RA) 9178.
With the adjustment, the daily minimum wage in the non-agriculture sector will be adjusted as follows: from P243.50 to P263.50 in Bulacan; from P239.50 to P259.50 in Bataan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac and Zambales; and from P197 to P217 in Aurora.
