Taiwan airline launches maiden flight in Clark By Reynaldo G. Navales
CLARK ECOZONE -- One of Taiwan's oldest airlines has launched its maiden flight at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) in this economic zone Friday.
Far Eastern Transport Corporation (FAT) will fly three times a week in Clark, according to Victor Luciano, Clark Development Corporation executive vice president.
Luciano said the decision of FAT to make DMIA a regular destination came after some key officials of Taiwan saw the potential of DMIA as a viable destination to the growing tourists market from the Republic of China (ROC) during the recent Taiwan's mission to Subic and Clark.
The airline will use either Boeing 757s or MD 80s aircraft in their Taipei-Clark-Taipei route starting July 31.
FAT was founded in 1957 as the first privately owned airline in Taiwan. It now operates 11 domestic routes and four international routes, served by a fleet of 16 jet aircraft.
Because of its high quality maintenance, flight operations and in-flight services, FAT was the recipient of Best Airline awards from the Civil Aeronautics Administration, especially in the area of maintenance quality in the year 2000.
Luciano earlier said HK Express, Hong Kong's newest airline, will embark on a twice-weekly regular flights to Clark from the former British colony starting August 7.
From its base at Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok airport, it operates multiple daily services between Hong Kong and popular cities in Mainland China using the new Embraer 170.
