City to collect only biodegradable wastes
STARTING August 22, the City Government of San Fernando will strictly limit its daily garbage collection to only biodegradable wastes.
The City's action is in compliance with Republic Act (RA) 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, City Ordinance No. 2000-002 and Executive Order No. CMO 2005-010.
Gunning for a cleaner, greener, and "zero-waste-producing" city in the coming months, the City enjoins all households, private and public institutions in the city to segregate their garbage.
For areas served by the city garbage trucks, collection will be done daily from 6 to 8 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. for biodegradable wastes and 4 to 6 a.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. for non-biodegradable or recyclable materials.
In the barangays that have their garbage trucks, residents are asked to coordinate with their barangay officials for the schedule of collection.
Residents are also encouraged to dispose of materials that are non-biodegradable but recyclable - plastic cups, bottles, and the like - through sale to various junk shops or to avail themselves of the Material Recovery Facility in their areas.
A fine of P500 to P2,500 and an imprisonment of one day to one month, depending on the gravity of the offense, will be imposed against those who will exercise improper management of waste. (ABL)
