JQ jumps to Lakas party 'for constituents' sake'
By Albert B. Lacanlale

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - "My loyalty to my party ends where my loyalty to my country begins."

Quoting these famous words, Board Member Johnny "JQ" Quiambao has announced his bolting from the Buklod-Kapampangan party in favor of the ruling Lakas Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) party.

Quiambao has officially joined the administration party Wednesday night, taking his oath as Lakas member before Senator Manuel "Lito" Lapid, provincial chairman of the political party in Pampanga.

Quiambao ran and won as board member for the province's Third District under the Buklod Kapampangan banner in the May 2004 elections.

The board member from Sapang Maisac, Mexico, said he decided to join the ruling party to fully support the programs of government of Lakas standard-bearer, Governor Mark T. Lapid.

Since his first day as member of the Provincial Board, Quiambao said, he had always supported meaningful projects under Governor Lapid's tutelage.

Quiambao is one of the board members who signed for the implementation of several infrastructure projects funded by the office of Senator Lapid.

He said those projects, which are expected to provide a big boost to the growth potential of Pampanga, had also influenced his decision in joining the Lakas camp.

"I can see that Senator Lapid and his son, Gov. Mark are really doing everything to help Pampanga. And I believe that joining them in the party could give me a free hand to support their projects," Quiambao said.

The Buklod Kapampangan, founded by former Solicitor General and Pampanga governor, lawyer Estelito Mendoza, had been associated with the Nationalist People's Coaltition. But, Quiambao stressed that though he was under Buklod, his candidate for governor during the past local elections was Mark.

Quiambao said his decision to jump over to the Lakas camp is "beyond politics" but a call of duty being a public servant who has vowed to hold the people's interest above all.

The oath-taking ceremony on Wednesday was witnessed by Goveror Lapid, broadcaster Perry Pangan and businessman Paul Laus.
