Editorial: Proudly Fernandino

THE City Government of San Fernando feels that it's about time to unearth artifacts and documents and discover the locality's historical sites and heroes - and there's no better time than now to do this.

Indeed, the city has a rich history and heritage, and Mayor Oscar S. Rodriguez is mighty proud of this fact. That is why he is heightening the City's campaign for heritage preservation and cultural promotion.

He said as much during the launching of the "Pagmaragul Ku, Fernandino Ku" project last Monday, which culminated with San Fernando's 251st founding anniversary and 101st year as capital of the province.

Also, a symposium on the life of Revolutionary Governor Tiburcio Hilario, destined to be considered as the brains of the revolutionary government in Pampanga, was conducted by the city government recently - part of its preservation and heritage for progress program.

The symposium - which is in turn part of city's "Our Heroes, Our Pride" project - was attended by high school and college students, teachers and professors alike.

Over time, various projects have been launched which promote the rich history of San Fernando, at the same time bring awareness to locals on the importance of certain events - and the people behind these events - to Tang Oca's vision of progress for the city.

Being aware of your hometown's history - and the people who made history in your town - brings a sense of being part of something big... something you can be proud of.

This is Tang Oca's vision... and with this is his belief that with the Fernandinos' support, the city's programs for heritage preservation would be a resounding success.
