Gueco: Princess Em By Malu Gueco
Today, we are alone in our grief. Your bereaved family is in pain, your media pals cringe in dismay and your audience keep twisting the radio dials waiting for your lively voice to come on the air.
ASLAGAN naka ning Ginung malugud! Enlightenment from our loving Goddess!
Last week, tragedy struck our hearts when we read the national dailies. Princess Em Malit, a beloved media sister, hogged the provincial story.
Woe to the cruel fate! Alas! She was killed in her home in Angeles City on September 1 by a drug-crazed addict. I threw the papers in disbelief, covered my face in horror and squeezed my shoulders, which shook in pain.
Why, sister, why?
What happened?
Where can I run to for comfort?
Even the skies broke into tears. The September horizon splintered into torrential rains; clouds shattered in copious waters; finally, a thunderstorm tore off the facade of humane sensibilities.
Today, we are alone in our grief. Your bereaved family is in pain, your media pals cringe in dismay and your audience keep twisting the radio dials waiting for your lively voice to come on the air.7
You are gone forever!
Sorrowful tears stream down our faces, our throats jam in desolation and our lips quiver at this loss. Nevermore will we see your all smiles in joie de vivre (love of life), hear your crackling jokes and endearing radio messages.
Now, let me pause for awhile... let the pen slide down, allow the paper to scatter as the unraveling memories touch my mind in a hazy sequence.
I recall our last walk in Makati City. We went to the Spanish Embassy. You wanted to apply for a visa to join your father who was visiting there. Thence, do you recall how we rocked in laughter watching the movie "You've Got E-mail"? How about those times of mirth when we rolled in joy in the radio booth as we swapped our funny events?
Or about the many instances I kept teasing you about your familiar umbrella which you carried day in and day out.
Truly, we miss you.
Lights Off
"We are veiled in gloom. She influenced my life with kind words, sunshine sharing and soft gentleness. Like a tree cut down before it prime bloom, she was taken from us in one swift, stricken and senseless moment," Sophiam asserted these words.
In the DWGV media world, colleagues were somber as they uttered these sentiments. "She was a broadcast icon, an exemplary public speaker and a distinguished associate. The lights have gone off in our existence."
Conclusion
In my last conversation with my friends, they confirmed that the killer has been caught.
This is a sad day.
Dear sister, rest in peace knowing you have given us your highest, caring and loving being. Retire from the maddening crowd. Repose in the heavenly shores which are awash in comfort, peace and perfection. Au Revoir. You are remembered for all times!
