Police to keep up fight v. illegal drugs
THE fight to curb the proliferation of illegal drugs in the town of Mabalacat has resulted in the arrest of a man believed to be among the biggest "drug pushers" in Barangay Dau in the town.
Senior Inspector Luisito M. Tan, Compac 1 chief, identified the suspect as Nestor Urquico, 44, of 6114 Bonifacio St., Daang Bakal, Dau, Mabalacat.
Residents of Daang Bakal in the town said the recent arrest of Urquico indicated that Superintendent Renato C. Soria, chief of the Mabalacat police, is committed to a successful campaign to abate drug-trafficking in the barangay, particularly in the Roxas District known as the drug center of Mabalacat.
Officials of the barangay disclosed that the suspect was among the street-level dealers of a drug supplier they identified only as a certain Laxamana.
Soria said they arrested Urquico after he -- while driving a motorcycle -- almost hit the police vehicle along South Daang Bakal Friday afternoon.
He said the suspect was charged for violation of Section 11, Article II of Republic Act (RA) 9165.
Aside from the illegal drugs, police also confiscated from the suspect his Motor Star MSX motorcycle with license plate YZ7964.
A report said policemen Darwin L. David and Edward C. Pineda, who were on board the police mobile car, saw the suspect pulled out a small plastic sachet that contained shabu that he tried to place inside his mouth.
The two policemen said they immediately grabbed the suspect's hand and confiscated the illegal drugs. (DMF)
