1 dead, 3 hurt in robbery By Albert B. Lacanlale
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- A 36-year-old man died while three of his companions were wounded when they were shot at by five suspected robbers in Barangay Panipuan in the city on Wednesday.
The fatality was Rudy Catungal who sustained several gunshot wounds. Those injured were Romeo S. Pingul, Randy Algarite and Arnold Mendoza.
A report said the victims were inside a parked jeepney near a birthday party in the barangay when the assailants, on board a white car, opened fire at them.
The gunmen had just pulled away a robbery/hold-up a few meters from the crime scene. They divested Michael Pingul, Edwin Pineda and Marlita Capan of their cash and valuables while the three were playing "tong-its," a card game.
The assailants, armed with caliber .45 and .9mm pistols, only chanced upon Catungal's group whose vehicle blocked the barangay's main road where the culprits were headed.
