Knights honor Rizal's martyrdom
IN COMMEMORATION of the 109th anniversary of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal this Friday, eight chapters of the Knights of Rizal Thursday held a wreath-laying ceremony and stage play in front of the Angeles City Hall where a statue of the national hero stands proudly.
Supreme Archievist Sir Reghis Romero II said Kapampangans are always first when it comes to patriotism and nationalism. This, he said, is evident as the Order of the Knights of Rizal from different chapters in the city commemorated the 109th martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal a day early.
Romero said starting at 5:30 a.m. Friday, the Knights of Rizal will be walking from Fort Santiago where Rizal was imprisoned to Luneta, known then as "Bagumbayan," where he was shot at.
He said various programs aimed to instill the teachings of Rizal such as leadership, honesty and patriotism have been launched in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
Romero also said among the 10 most outstanding leaders that were chosen, two are candidates for suma cum laude and five for cum laude. He said being a businessman and Filipino, he has a moral responsibility to the nation.
Meanwhile, Sir Romeo P. Calara, the chapter's regional commander, said the teachings and sacrifices of Rizal are worth remembering.
Other Rizalistas present were Angeles City chapter commander Rey Malig, Angeles City police chapter commander Roland Mallari, Angeles University Foundation chapter commander Sir Arquimenez David, Kalayaan chapter commander Romeo David, Kababaihan Rizalista Incorporada-Angeles City chapter president May Mangune, Kababaihan Rizalista Angeles Kuliat chapter president Marlyn Suarez, Kapariz Sapang Bato HS chapter president Michelle Razon and Kapariz-Epza HS chapter Catherine Parca.
