Pampanga police hailed for 'peaceful' New Year welcome
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Pampanga Governor Mark T. Lapid on Tuesday lauded the entire provincial police force for its successful drive in welcoming the New Year in "an orderly and peaceful manner."
Lapid was overwhelmed by the reports submitted by the Provincial Police Office, which showed that the recent New Year's Eve revelry was peaceful, as manifested by the drastic decrease in the quantity of untoward incidents and injuries, compared to previous years.
"We are very proud to report that the recent New Year's Eve celebration in our province was perhaps one of the most, if not the most, peaceful in the history of our province. I, therefore, salute our men in uniform for their vigilance and determination in protecting our people from possible harms which are perennially caused by firecrackers and indiscriminate firing of guns, and unruly celebration, among others, as they welcome the New Year," he said.
The governor earlier directed Senior Superintendent Leonardo Espina, chief of the Pampanga police, to place the different municipal and city police stations on high alert in an effort to minimize the usual firecracker-related injuries and combat the possible occurrence of untoward incidents while bidding farewell to the previous year and celebrating the entry of another year.
He, likewise, ordered the local policemen to refrain from indiscriminate firing of guns as a mode of welcoming the New Year.
Espina, for his part, said police visibility, which was enhanced by the acquisition of additional patrol vehicles, courtesy of the governor, had contributed to the success of their New Year's Eve campaign against violence and injuries.
"As per instruction of our beloved governor, our different police units contributed their proportionate shares of assistance to the peaceful observance of New Year in our province. They were in full alert and strategically visible," he said.
