Town execs to grace launch of Mabalacat book
ANGELES CITY -- Mabalacat Mayor Marino Morales will lead town officials during the launching of the first book ever in the town on Jan. 28, 2006 at the Holy Angel University.
Alex Castro's "Scenes from a Bordertown and Other Views/Views from the Pampang and Other Scenes" is a unique two books-in-one, chronicling the history of Pampanga's northernmost town on one hand, and the history and culture of Pampanga on the other hand, using rare photographs and documentary evidence from archival materials.
Morales and Provincial Board (PB) member and former vice mayor Prospero Lagman will be the guest speakers. Noted art critic Caesar "Cid" Reyes will be the featured book reviewer.
A song titled "Ing Sumpa," composed specifically for the event, will also be performed. It tells about the alleged curse that Spanish Recollect friar, Fr. Gregorio Bueno, imposed on the town prior to his execution by the revolutionaries in the late 19th century.
For inquiries and book reservations, contact the Center for Kapampangan Studies, Holy Angel University, at tel. no. 888-8691 local 1311.
