Ramos visits Clark Expo By Dante M. Fabian
CLARK ECOZONE -- Former President Fidel Ramos will visit the newly reopened Clark Expo (former Expo Pilipino) Friday to inspect the refurbished centerpiece structure of the Philippine Centennial Independence celebration in 1998.
The Ramos administration spent more than P2.3 billion for the construction of the structure, which was closed in 1999 when former President Joseph Estrada assumed presidency.
Clark Development Corporation (CDC) president Antonio Ng said the soft opening of Clark Expo last December 8 was realized due to the directive and full support of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in boosting tourism and investment activities inside the economic zone.
Ng said the reopening of Clark Expo was in consonance with President Arroyo's Administrative Order (AO) No. 63 issued on Feb. 17, 2003, directing the transfer of certain assets and liabilities of the National Development Company (NDC) in First Clark Centennial Corporation (FCCC) to CDC.
Ramos is expected to assist the state-owned firm in promoting the theme park as one of the top tourist destinations in the country today.
CDC has reopened the structure to boost various tourism activities, including the staging of sports-tourism activities to encourage local and foreign tourists to frequent Clark.
Since the park's December 8 re-opening, various activities have been held at the Clark Expo that included the final eviction of the reality TV show Pinoy Big Brother, Mutya ng Angeles, trade shows, among others.
