Murder case filed vs barangay chief's killers By Marna H. Dagumboy
CAMP OLIVAS -- A murder case was filed Thursday by the Mexico police against three men believed to be behind the death of Pandacaqui village chief Ismael Lampa last January 16.
Police identified the gunmen as Fernando Dungo alias "Dimas" and brothers Jay-R and Cesar Sarmiento, also residents of Barangay Pandacaqui in Mexico town.
According to police, the murder case was filed against the three - who allegedly gunned down Lampa - before the Provincial Prosecutor's Office in the City of San Fernando.
Investigators said a witness to the said killing is now under tight security by the Pampanga Provincial Police Office (PPO).
The trio however remains at large as of presstime.
Lampa was gunned down roughly one month since the killing of the only woman village chieftain here.
On January 16, Lampa was shot to death by at least two unidentified men, armed with .45 caliber pistols.
Lampa, reports said, was rushed to the Dee Hwa Liong Hospital in Mabalacat where he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Close kin said they heard four to five gunshots before they found Lampa lifeless.
In 2003, Lampa was charged with an administrative case spurred by alleged irregularity in the construction of a road in Pandacaqui. His erstwhile bantay-bayan chief, Boy Alejandrino, spearheaded the filing of charges against him.
The police, who are still baffled on the motive behind the killing, recovered four pieces of empty shells similar to that of a .45 caliber pistol.
Lampa is the third barangay chairman in this town killed by gunmen sine 2004. The first was Don Briones of Barangay Cuayan, followed by barangay chairwoman Victorina Gomez.
