Table tennis team takes 4th straight championship
By Dante M. Fabian

ANGELES CITY -- The Holy Angel University (HAU) table tennis team bagged the championship in the fourth straight year in the prestigious National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities (Naascu).

The Angelians topped the events winning all matches last February 15 at University of Makati.

HAU coach Joey Aguilar said the HAU men's and women's teams dominated all the matches, beating powerhouses of New Era University and the University of Makati.

Carlo Puno scored 3-2 in the finals while Donnel Atienza and Jonas Cortez grabbed the gold plum of the doubles event with a 3-2 score.

The women's team, Maricris Ayson powered the Angelians into beating all competing teams.

Aguilar said Angelians went under strict training routines to realize their resolve to win the Naascu championship and those of other future competitions.

Aguilar said that the HAU team is now holding its practices to prepare the players for winning the next major event, the National University Games scheduled on the third week of October.

"I hope the HAU and City Government officials would continue to support the team. The players are all doing their best to win regional and national competitions in our hope to bring honor to the city and our school," Aguilar said.
