Christian group leaders promote Mabalacat GK village By Reynaldo G. Navales
MABALACAT -- Leaders of the religious community Couples For Christ (CFC) have been promoting the development of a Gawad Kalinga (GK) village in this municipality.
CFC director Frank Padilla and GK national project director Tony Meloto accompanied at least six officers and members of the Cabinet Spouses Foundation in their visit into the housing site yesterday.
The group signified its intention to support the ongoing community development project in Barangay Tabun here, where some 22 housing units were already constructed.
In the whole 1.2-hectare property donated by the Santos Ventura Hocorma Foundation, some 115 houses will be built, it was learned.
"We recommend the development of the community because of its proximity to the highway. It's a showcase of our Gawad Kalinga project," Meloto said.
He requested the Mabalacat GK team headed by Brother Lito Bolus to source out additional funds for the landscaping of the area.
He also expressed optimism that the project will be completed this year.
"We will be able to get all the support of the National Government. Let us show the world what we are doing to rehabilitate and rebuild the lives of our less-fortunate brothers and sisters especialy the lahar victims," Meloto said.
Trees and plants will be planted within the whole community to make the place green and beautiful, according to Bolus.
Among the CSF officers who visited the GK village here were Pacita Gonzales, wife of Justice Secretary Raul Gonzales; Madelina Panganiban, wife of Agriculture Secretary Domingo Panganiban; Lawyer Charito Cruz, wife of Defense Secretary Avelino Cruz; Lovely Romulo, wife of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo; and Alice Favila, wife of Trade and Industry Secretary Peter Favila.
