Murder suspect nabbed By Reynaldo G. Navales
ANGELES CITY -- Police operatives in the city on Thursday arrested a man who was earlier charged with "frustrated murder" in court.
Melchor Yapi Quintua, 38, of 2026 P. Villanueva Street, Barangay Claro M. Recto, was captured at his residence at 11 a.m. Thursday.
Chief Inspector Felixberto P. Lagman, chief of Station 6 of the Angeles City police, said he effected Quintua's arrest by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Philbert I. Iturralde of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 58 in Angeles City.
Lagman said the suspect was involved in a vehicular accident along McArthur Highway in Marisol Subdivision in the city on the night of July 28, 2005 where one Conrado Antonio, a tricycle driver reportedly sustained serious injuries.
Quinta allegedly left Antonio unattended and failed to provide assistance to the victim in terms of hospitalization and others.
Quintua belied the accusations hurled against him, saying the victim was the one who refused to be brought to the hospital. "He (Antonio) asked me to drop him in Pulung Maragul. He said he was fine," he said.
However, Quintua said he still brought the victim to the Ospital Ning Angeles (ONA) for medical examinations and treatment. "I have no intention to kill the person. I was shocked upon learning about the case they filed against me," he said.
A P200,000 bail was recommended for Quintua who is now detained at the Angeles City District Jail.
