Gov't urged to consider plight of Mt. Pinatubo settlers
MABALACAT -- Board Member Tarcicio Halili is asking the government to act on the housing problem of Mount Pinatubo settlers who acquired properties in a community here.
Halili disclosed that some families at the Maryland Subdivision in Barangay Sapang Biabas in the town are already in the brink of being evicted from their respective residences.
He said many of the Maryland families are no longer capable of paying the properties they acquired through loan from concerned government agencies.
The residents in Maryland, he said, are also victims of the Mount Pinatubo eruption and deserve to be given properties for free.
Thousands of lahar victims, now residing in different resettlement sites in Pampanga, already received their Transfer Certificates of Titles (TCTs) for the properties they occupy.
"The residents of Maryland are the original Pinatubo victims. They also deserve to be given properties for free just like those who are now in resettlement sites," Halili said.
The board member is now coordinating with different government agencies to resolve the issue of the Maryland residents. (RGN)
