Gallardo to join Pampanga's 4th district showdown in 2007 polls By Joel P. Mapiles
CANDABA --- The second man in the town described by his fellow Candabeños as a leader with conscience has expressed his intention to give the eight municipalities of the Pampanga's fourth district a proper and fitting representation in the Provincial Board (PB).
This holds true as majority of the town's officials urged Vice Mayor Daniel Gallardo to run for board member, to share his talent in the PB in crafting relevant resolutions and ordinances that could help boost the economy and local tourism.
Gallardo, undisputed three-term vice mayor from 1998 to date -- whom others claimed as a mayor in waiting -- has opted not to run for the highest position in the town in 2007 as he noted that Mayor Jerry Pelayo is now in the momentum and in the right track to lead the town towards full development.
Gallardo said his love for Candaba has motivated him to set aside his aspiration to become mayor of the town in 2007 as he pointed out that this town has found a sincere leader in Pelayo's stewardship.
He claimed that the first class municipality still needs the dynamism of Pelayo, hence he would not disturb this town's opportunity to become the top in all aspects of endeavor, but rather support the town's leadership as would-be board member in 2007.
Gallardo noted that what the town needs now is to give Pelayo full support from the PB and not an opponent who could derail the development efforts of the Municipal Government.
He said if given the chance in the PB, he would truly bring the issues and concerns of the fourth district, particularly the need to rehabilitate the Pampanga River, environment concerns, aqua-agricultural assistance needed by the farmers and fishpen operators.
He said that there is a need to review and legislate measures that would strengthen the collaborative works between the province, cities and municipalities as he observed that there is lack of coordination between the local government units, thus friction exists in between.
Gallardo, who also served as a barangay chairman in 1994, was elected as president of the Liga ng mga Barangay Candaba chapter. He will slug it out with other expected wannabes such as re-electionist Board Member Nelson Calara, Architect Andy Gulapa, among others.
