Delay in resolution of rape case hit By Marna H. Dagumboy
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- A lawyer of the latest victim of suspected serial rapist Robert "Jun" Ponce on Monday expressed dismay over the delay of the resolution of the case filed before the Provincial Prosecutor's Office here.
According to Marissa Madrid-Dacayanan, it had already been three months since the last hearing, but the prosecutor handling the case has yet to release any resolution. "It's (rape case) long overdue," she said.
On April 6, a preliminary hearing was convened at the Provincial Prosecutor's Office where the case was submitted for resolution.
Sometime in January, Ponce allegedly abducted and raped "Kate" (not her real name), 25, a former sales lady of a department store in the city -- in Maro Bianco's Inn in Barangay Sto. Tomas, Lubao.
The suspect was charged for allegedly "kidnapping," "illegally detaining," "torturing," and "raping" the victim.
Ponce was also charged with alleged "illegal serious detention," with qualifying circumstances that he purportedly raped and subjected the victim to torture and dehumanizing acts.
The police said the victim was "held captive, sexually abused, tortured, forced to take shabu and do dehumanizing acts" by the suspect.
