Editorial: Ooops ... He did it again

BOXING champ Manny Pacquiao's victory over Oscar "Chololo" Larios last Sunday was, in some way, expected.

We felt it, from the very start of the mano-a-mano -- even if he was practically jolted on the third round. But hey, that jarring experience made the match all the more exciting. We knew Manny would get out of that sticky situation, and he did.

We also knew, by the time Manny that nasty cut below Chololo's left eye that he would emerge victorious, yet again. It was just in the air, which was full of anticipation. It was in the faces of the crowd at the Araneta Coliseum who came to see the battle in person. It was in Manny's face, his composure. Everything about him spelled confidence.

It was probably the home court advantage, which we think did the deed. Being in your home country during a fight as big as last Sunday's match brings a sensation of being loved more, of being given every inch of support from your kababayans.

That was probably how Manny felt last Sunday.
And well, of course, there was that US$2 million to look forward to, apart from all the other sponsorships coming his way.

We just hope our very own Pacman won't lose it along the way of his being famous, of his being an icon of the youth -- and every Filipino. Every little boy looks up to him now, with dreams of being like him when they grow up... and it would be distasteful to disappoint their ambition.

Right now, Manny has done his country proud, again. His match last Sunday left everyone breathless with his every punch, with every hit that landed on him, but with the anticipation and expectation that he will win.
And it felt oh so good when he did.
