Asia solidarity envoys visit San Fernando
By Albert B. Lacanlale

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Representatives of various business and financial institutions will be visiting the city Tuesday as part of the solidarity mission of the Institute for Solidarity in Asia (ISA).

The solidarity mission is in connection with the City Government's adoption of the Public Governance System (PGS) being espoused by the ISA. It aims to present the City Government's achievements and accomplishments under the use of the PGS.

The PGS stands by the principle of cooperation and participation between political leaders and their constituents -- which Mayor Oscar Rodriguez describes as shared governance between the public and private sector.

For the mission, the ISA assembled a five-to-six-member team with representatives from the World Bank, Development Bank of the Philippines, business advocacy groups like the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), and executives from private and publicly-listed corporations to strengthen its support to the city in terms of financial and technical assistance.

The ISA is an affiliate of the Foundation for Community Building in Asia and the Pacific (FCA), which was established in 1999 as an autonomous non-profit foundation with the goal of working closely with universities, research institutes, and think tanks in the Philippines as well as the Asian region.

Its main areas of work are economic and financial reforms, strengthening corporate and political governance, and conducting educational programs. It was set up to mobilize the business sector and civil society of the Philippines toward contributing substantively to alleviating poverty, improving the business climate, and promoting responsible citizenship.

The City Government, together with the Multi-Sectoral Governance Council (MSGC), pulled together all the available resources in preparation of this momentous event in the history of San Fernando as a city envisioning to be the gateway to North Philippines, regional center of Central Luzon, champion of good urban governance, and habitat for human excellence.
