Mayor denies suspending transfer of railway settlers By Reynaldo G. Navales
MABALACAT Mayor Marino Morales said Monday that he did not postpone the relocation of 5,700 families in the town, which will be displaced by the North Luzon Railway (NorthRail) project.
Morales said that he suspended only the mobilization, particularly the documentation, in the relocation of the railway settlers in some areas in Barangay Dau.
This, following the reported miscommunication between the urban poor associations and village leaders in some areas in the barangay.
According to Morales, the mobilization of affected families is being done in other parts of the municipality.
Dan Punzalan of the Urban Poor Affairs Office (Upao) here said that it is only in Barangay Dau that they encounter strong resistance from the informal settlers.
Together with other local officials, Morales on Sunday met with scores of Philippine National Railway (PNR) residents in Barangay Dau to shed light on the relocation process. Officials of the National Housing Authority (NHA) were also present during the consultation meeting.
NHA Pampanga officer-in-charge Alfredo Ordonez said they will facilitate a series of meetings with the PNR dwellers in Barangay Dau in order to disseminate right information regarding the relocation process.
