Revival of 'lamac' seen to help poor people
By Raymond C. Garcia

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The images of the Virgen delos Remedios (VDLR) together with the Sto. Cristo del Perdon will begin Tuesday their town visits, reviving the "lamac" in order to extend assistance to the poor.

The town visits or the "dalo balen" is scheduled until her coronation day on Sep. 8, 2006.

The VDLR and the Sto. Cristo del Perdon will be visiting for the entire month the towns of Masantol, Macabebe, Apalit, San Simon, Sto. Tomas, and Minalin. They will be in Guagua, Sasmuan, Lubao, Floridablanca, Porac, Sta. Rita, Bacolor, Mexico, San Luis, Candaba, Sta. Ana, Arayat, Magalang, Mabalacat, Angeles City, University of the Assumption, and the City of San Fernando next month.

Thousands of devotees would flock to where the two icons would go in order to give reverence and continue to ask for guidance and assistance.

Pampanga Archbishop Paciano Aniceto earlier said that the Catholic Church still goes for a peaceful and humane solution to the insurgency problem in the country. He said the Catholic Church goes for solutions that are anchored on the biblical laws, which include respect to human lives.

He said although government forces and rebel groups have different ideology, they are all human beings and probably all Christians.

Rev. Fr. Deogracias Kerr Galang supported Aniceto, saying that the problem of insurgency during the launch of the crusade 50 years ago is pretty much the same with the present situation.

Galang said the "lamac," which were voluntarily given by the faithful in places where the "dalo balen" (procession) passed through, were allocated for assisting the poor. Poverty during those days was said to have the biggest effect in the birth of insurgency.

As part of the 50th canonical coronation anniversary of the VDLR, the committee headed by Rev. Fr. Ramon Torres will revive the "lamac," proceeds of which will be coursed through the Social Action Center of Pampanga (Sacop) for the various socio-covic plans of the archdiocese of Pampanga.
