Suspected rebels torch 2 Army detachments
By Marna H. Dagumboy

CAMP OLIVAS -- Suspected members of the Rebolusyonaryong Hukbong Bayan (RHB) on Friday torched two Army detachments shortly after a brief encounter with army soldiers at dawn in Barangay San Isidro in Minalin town.

Colonel Ricardo Visaya, 69th Infantry Battalion (IB) commanding officer, reported that suspected members of the RHB - a break away group of the New People's Army (NPA) - burned down two Army detachments along the encounter site located in Pasak River of the area.

He added that no casualties were reported in the burning of the detachments.

Visaya said shortly after the detachments were razed by fire, San Isidro Barangay Chairman Alfredo Garcia received a text message from a certain "Ka Miguel," suspected leader of the RHB group saying: "Mag-ingat ka kapitan alam namin ikaw ang nag-tip samin kahapon. Mag-ingat ka (Beware Captain, we know that you were the one who tipped the authorities about us. Beware)!"

The 69th IB reported that three suspected RHB members were killed in an encounter with members of the Philippine Army and the police in the area last Wednesday.

The Army identified the recovered fatality as Anita Ocxian native of Calauag
Quezon. However, two of the bodies of the still unidentified rebel fatalities are still "missing."

The 69th IB said three RHB members who were injured during the incident were rushed to the Sasmuan Clinic for medical treatment.

Recovered from the encounter were various firearms, a grenade and documents.

Initial investigations revealed that last Wednesday, at around 1 p.m. more than 10 suspected RHB members - under a certain "Ka Liza" - had a brief encounter with the elements of the 69th Infantry Battalion, Pampanga PNP and 7th MIB.

The Army said the rebels exchange gunfire with the authorities, resulting in the death of the three still unidentified RHB members.

The Army had vowed to cleanse the region of rebel groups, as Armed Forces Chief Hermogenes Esperon ordered the sending of more forces in the region to provide security.
