Prov’l board backs move to retain Mabalacat spur road
By Marna H. Dagumboy

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Members of the Pampanga Provincial Board (PB) on Monday vowed to support Mabalacat Mayor Marino Morales in his move to have the ingress and egress portion of the Clark-Mabalacat spur road maintained.

The body requested the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) to retain the ingress and egress of the Clark-Mabalacat spur road along the McArthur highway in Barangay Mabiga, Mabalacat town as provided in its original plan and design.

The PB supports Morales’ move because according to them, the construction of the multi-million peso Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway Project (SCTEP) is “disadvantageous” to the constituency in the area.

Earlier, Morales threatened to stop the construction of the SCTEP unless the BCDA pursues its plans to build the Mabalacat-Clark Spur Road.

Morales said construction of the Mabalacat-Clark Spur Road had been stopped by the Japanese construction firm Hazama-aisei-Nippon Steel Joint Venture and its sub-contractors for no apparent reason.

“The BCDA is reneging on its commitment to construct the vital roadway, Mabalacat-Clark Spur Road,” said Morales.

“If BCDA will not construct Mabalacat-Clark Spur Road, we will be compelled to stop construction of the SCTEP because there is also possibility that other connecting roads and bridges promised in Concepcion will not be constructed,” said Morales.
