Local officials join Arroyo party
By Joel P. Mapiles

ARAYAT -- To show their full support and alliance to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Third District Representative Rey Aquino, Mexico Mayor Teddy Tumang and town Councilor Jun Balagtas officially joined the Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino (Kampi) ticket, the President's political party.

The three officials together with other national and local officials in the country were formally inducted by Camarines Sur Congressman Luis Villafuerte, Kampi president, recently.

Aquino believes that their alliance with the President's party is a manifestation of their full support and cooperation to all the developmental plans of the President, particularly her Super Regions concept.

In an interview with Balagtas, he said it is his pleasure and pride that a town councilor like him would become an official member of the President’s Kampi family.

With this, it seems that all roads are clear for Balagtas, who declared his intention to run for the highest position in this town challenging incumbent Mayor Chito Espino.

The people here are hopeful that Balagtas would eventually be declared as Kampi's standard bearer if the election would not be postponed in May 2007.

Balagtas said with his alliance to the President's political party, he would fully support the principles, thrusts and directions of the party in its effort to give the people a more decent life.

It can be noted that this early, some private and religious sectors here are quietly committing their all support to Balagtas in their belief that this town needs a dynamic leader who could implement peace and order and boost development.

In be recalled that last month, Balagtas declared his willingness and availability to challenge the incumbent mayor in a one-on-one mayoral race in 2007, only to give the Arayatenos an alternative.
