Police see quarry as motive in slay of village chief By Marna H. Dagumboy
STA. RITA -- Policemen here on Sunday revealed that the quarry operation in this town maybe a reason behind the killing of Barangay San Isidro Chairman Abelardo Cura Mariano on August 31.
Sta. Rita Police Chief Samuel Pabonita said prior to the killing, one of the killers of Mariano - a co-worker in a quarry site here - was seen outside the victim's residential compound.
Police investigators said they have identified the three killers of Mariano, but refused to identify them for fear that it would hamper the investigation.
Three armed men shot dead Mariano while driving his passenger jeepney along the megadike in Barangay San Isidro here last Thursday.
The victim, who sustained gunshot wounds in the different parts of the body, was brought to the Diosdado Macapagal Memorial Hospital in San Matias, Guagua for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
